Many people believe that marrying a foreigner in Ukraine is a very complicated and time-consuming procedure that involves a large number of pitfalls. In fact, in order to be able to marry a foreigner, it is enough to follow only a few conditions:

1. Both spouses must reach the age of marriage (in Ukraine, the marriage age for a woman is set at seventeen, for a man at eighteen).

2. Neither spouse is officially married to other persons, because according to Ukrainian law, a man and a woman can be in only one marriage at a time.

3. There are no obstacles to marriage. Thus, the legislation of Ukraine prohibits marriage between persons who are in a direct line of kinship, between adoptive parents and their adopted children, etc.

4. Both spouses must be present at the time of marriage registration.

Of course, usually marrying a foreigner requires careful preparation, preparation of a package of documents, application, visits to the registry office and waiting for your turn, which takes a long time.

However, after 2016, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine launched a pilot project "Marriage for a day", thanks to which persons wishing to marry can do so in a short time, without queues and without time. The service "Marriage for a day", of course, has simplified the procedure of marriage registration for foreigners and, although little different from the traditional marriage, but give the couple the opportunity to win significantly in time.

The "Marriage for a day" service, among other things, has a huge number of advantages, among which it is possible to determine that the couple can choose the place where the marriage will be registered, there is no need to contact the registry office, save time and more.

What documents do I need to get married?

Citizens of Ukraine must have a passport document, identification code, as well as, if available, a document certifying the termination of a previous marriage.

In the case of foreigners, they must present a passport or other document proving the applicant's identity, a certificate of permanent or temporary residence in Ukraine or another document confirming the legality of the foreigner's stay in Ukraine.

These documents must be translated into Ukrainian, legalized or apostilized in the manner prescribed by law, depending on the country where such documents were issued.

Also, we emphasize that the conclusion of a marriage by a citizen of Ukraine with a foreigner gives the latter grounds for obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit, which gives the opportunity to legally stay in Ukraine for one or three years.
