Tax Identification Number for Foreigners in Lviv

The procedure for obtaining a Taxpayer Registration Card Number (TRCN) by foreigners is regulated by the Regulation on the Registration of Individuals in the State Register of Individuals, approved by Order No. 822 of the Ministry of Finance dated 29.09.2017. The tax number is assigned to individuals who are required to pay taxes: employed citizens, entrepreneurs, etc. A unique 10-digit code is generated by the system based on the individual’s date of birth and gender. This number is retained for life.

The Tax Identification Number (TIN), also known as the TRCN for foreign nationals in Ukraine, is an individual tax number assigned to persons obligated to pay taxes or other mandatory contributions. It remains permanently linked to that person throughout their lifetime.

One important condition is that a foreign national already residing in Ukraine must not exceed the permitted immigration period of stay in Ukraine. Please note that this period is 90 days.

It is also possible to obtain a tax number/code even if the foreign national is not physically present in Ukraine. In such a case, a power of attorney can be issued at a Ukrainian consulate in their home country or notarized locally and then legalized. This document can then be sent to a trusted representative in Ukraine, who will be able to obtain the TIN for the foreign national in Lviv.

A Tax Identification Number may be required for the following purposes:

Required documents for obtaining a TIN for foreigners in Ukraine:

  • A copy of the foreigner’s valid passport;

  • A copy of the foreigner’s residence permit (if available);

  • Information about the foreigner’s place of birth;

  • Information about the foreigner’s place of residence in their home country (address);

  • A notarized power of attorney from the foreign citizen authorizing representation of their interests.
