Martial Law and Service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Military lawyer in Lviv

Martial law and service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not deprive you of the right to exercise your freedoms and rights guaranteed by international treaties, the Constitution, and the laws of Ukraine. Therefore, only a team of highly specialized professionals can protect you in such a difficult time.

A military lawyer is a specialist who works with conscripts (mobilized individuals), active military personnel, as well as retired and reserve servicemen, and is tasked with protecting their legal rights and freedoms in accordance with current legislation.

Why does the legal firm "OLSON" have a dedicated specialist for working with servicemen, combatants, contract soldiers, and veterans?

Because law, like medicine, requires specialization. Just as doctors need to focus on a narrow field to be truly effective, so do legal professionals. At “OLSON,” our military lawyers are experts who have provided hundreds—possibly thousands—of consultations since 2014 and continued their work after the full-scale invasion. Unlike other lawyers, our team continued working even during the hardest days for our country, ensuring your case is in safe and capable hands. We have won dozens and hundreds of cases throughout Western Ukraine and beyond.

Who Should Contact a Military Lawyer at Olson?

  • Conscripts who face pressure from military enlistment offices (TCC), violations during medical examinations (MLC), or accusations of draft evasion.

  • Active servicemen who need legal protection due to breaches of contract service conditions, administrative or criminal proceedings related to military service, refusal to obey orders, desertion, or demobilization.

  • Veterans who need help obtaining ATO or combatant status or using legally guaranteed benefits.

Legal Services Provided by Olson's Military Lawyers

Our team also operates in other regions including Zakarpattia (Uzhhorod), Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, and Volyn (Lutsk), where our lawyers can be summoned to protect your rights.

We’ve been offering legal services in military matters for many years. We can solve even the most complex issues, often during the consultation stage without going to court. A military lawyer in 2023 is a professional capable of defending your rights under any circumstance. Our company’s mission is to protect the rights of citizens, whether civilian or military. We believe that defending the Homeland is the duty of every Ukrainian, regardless of gender, race, religion, language, or political beliefs. Yet, our democratic state, governed by law, has a robust legal framework that regulates mobilization and military service during both peace and wartime.

Unfortunately, some state bodies—especially TCCs—ignore these laws, engaging in illegal detentions and forced transfers, often conducting MLCs without the presence of the person involved.

Key Military Legal Advice: Act Early

Legal practice, like medicine, shows that early intervention is critical. If your rights were violated during an MLC, they can still be protected—either pretrial or in court. But once you’ve received a deployment order, refusing service becomes a criminal matter. So act early—contact a military lawyer.

Most Popular Services of Olson’s Military Lawyers

Since 2015, our company has provided military legal services. Since the full-scale invasion in 2022, demand for our services has grown significantly. Here are our top three most requested services:

  1. Military Legal Consultations – For nearly ten years, our consultations on mobilization and service have remained in high demand. In peak months, we handled 120–150 consultations.

  2. Deferral Assistance – Many men prefer not to visit the TCC in person. We’ve successfully obtained hundreds of deferrals remotely.

  3. Lawyer Visits to TCC – These visits are often the last chance to protect one’s rights. We've completed over 50 visits with a success rate above 70%.
